About us

The UW Huskies compete in the Northwest Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), who oversees collegiate club water polo for over 112 universities across 15 divisions. Each division holds three tournaments including a divisional championship. The winner of each divisional championship competes at the National Championships along with the host school of that year's host division.

The team is overseen by the UW Club Sports office who provides partial funding to the program with the rest coming from fundraising and individual player dues. Day-to-day operations of the team are conducted by the team board which consists of 5 members and is elected annually by all current players.

The season officially begins in Winter Quarter and goes through May. But the team begins training at the beginning of each school year and participates in tournaments outside of CWPA located in Washington, California and Canada.

History

The University of Washington Women's Water Polo Club team began in the mid-90s as a competitive but open club team that welcomes all students at the University of Washington.

Within a few short years, The team was already competing for the Northwest Division Championship of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) and won their first title in 1998. The program's success continued and by 2000, the Huskies won their first National Championship.

To date, the Lady Dawgs have claimed nine division titles (1998-2001, 2003, 2016), one national championship (2000), and seven division runner-up (2002, 2004-2009) finishes and completed the 2019 season as the #6 team in the country.
